Mail Ballot Overview

• Any registered voter may vote by mail.
• A mail ballot is the same as an absentee ballot; however, voters do not need to be absent to vote by mail.
• State law requires all Florida voters to vote a paper optical scan ballot whether voting by mail, at an early voting site, or at the polls on Election Day.
• Voters will NOT receive a paper receipt after voting.
• Florida law requires that ALL accepted mail ballots be included in the official final results.
• No need to remember election dates; voters who request ballots for all elections will automatically be mailed ballots that they are eligible to vote. 
• A request to vote by mail in all elections will be good through the calendar year of the second regularly scheduled general election.
• All voters are encouraged to vote by mail and avoid standing in line for the same ballot at the polls.
• All requests for ballots to be mailed must be received no later than 5 p.m. on the 6th day prior to an election.
• A request for a ballot to be mailed to an address other than the voter's address on file with the Supervisor of Elections must be made in writing and signed by the voter. (Effective January 1, 2014)
• Voters may pick up mail ballots in person through the day before Election Day. By state law, mail ballots cannot be issued on Election  Day except in the case of an emergency, to the extent that the voter will be unable to go to his or her assigned polling place. The voter or voter's designee must submit an affidavit regarding the emergency. (Effective January 1, 2014)
• Convenient ballot drop-off locations are available during designated dates and times throughout the county.

CARRYING OUT SOMEONE ELSE'S BALLOT

VOTERS MAY DESIGNATE IN WRITING ANYONE TO PICK UP THEIR BALLOT NO SOONER THAN 5 DAYS PRIOR TO ELECTION DAY. THE DESIGNEE IS LIMITED TO 2 BALLOTS FOR EACH ELECTION OTHER THAN HIS/HER OWN BALLOT AND BALLOTS FOR HIS/HER *IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY.  [F.S. 101.62(4)(b)(4)]f

Voter Must Sign an Authorization Designating the Person Allowed to Pick Up the Ballot. Designee Must Provide Picture ID and Complete an Office Affidavit.

   VOTING YOUR MAIL BALLOT

• Completely fill in the oval next to each of your selections on your ballot.
• Put your ballot in the secrecy envelope.
• Put the secrecy envelope in the return envelope. Enclose only your ballot in your envelope.
• Seal the envelope and sign your name on the back where indicated.
• Print the date under your signature.
• Affix required postage if mailing, or drop off ballot at any Supervisor of Elections office or designated ballot drop-off location.
• If you make a mistake, call (727) 464-VOTE (8683) to request another ballot.
• You may receive up to three ballots; however, only the first ballot received in our office will be counted.
• If you decide to vote early or at your precinct on Election Day instead of voting your mail ballot, bring your ballot with you and ask the poll worker to cancel it so you may vote in person.
• If you decide to vote early or at your precinct and cannot find your mail ballot, the poll worker will need to confirm that your ballot has not been received and cancel your mail ballot so you may vote in person. 

RETURNING VOTED BALLOT

• Ballots may be returned by mail or in person.
• There is no limit to the number of ballots a person may return on behalf of other voters. 
  NOTE:  Any person who provides or offers to provide, and any person who accepts, a pecuniary or other benefit in exchange for distributing, ordering, requesting, collecting, delivering, or otherwise physically possessing more than two absentee ballots per election in addition to his or her own ballot or a ballot belonging to an immediate family member, except as provided in F.S. 101.6105-101.695, commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in F.S. 775.082, 775.083 or 775.084. (Effective January 1, 2014)

VOTED MAIL BALLOTS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AT POLLING PLACES. THEY MUST BE RETURNED TO ONE OF THE SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS OFFICES BY 7 P.M. ELECTION DAY. [F.S. 101.67(2) and 101.6103(2)]
